Louis Braille, The Boy Who Invented Books for the Blind, by Margaret Davidson

Louis wanted to be a harness maker just like father.  So one day when he was three years old everyone in his family was too busy to pay attention to him.  He could have played by himself but he went to his fathers workbench and played with his tools and poked himself in the eye.  He went  to a school for the blind and wanted to read, but the raised print letters were too hard to read.  At the age of 12 he created the Braille alphabet.

One other book I would recommend is: The Throne of Fire.
