Harriet the Invincible, by Ursula Vernon

Harriet is not your typical princess, she's a hamster.  But when her parents tell her about the curse Ratshade put upon her she says she's invincible.  So she goes on dangerous adventures for two years and comes back the week before her birthday.  When Ratshade comes back, instead of pricking her finger on the hamster wheel she throws Ratshade on to the hamster wheel and everyone falls into a deep sleep, except for Harriet and her family.

Two other books I would recommend are:  Bird and Squirrel AND The Throne of Fire
