Ivan the gorilla lives at exit 8 Big Top Mall. Stella the elephant is Ivan's best friend but she is very old. She has an infection in her foot. Bob is Ivan's other friend. When Stella dies, Mack (the mall owner) needs another elephant. Ruby comes along.
I liked this book because I read it in school. I think it really deserved the Newberry medal.
Two other books I think others would enjoy are:
On the Banks of Plum Creek AND The One and Only Ivan.
